The Waterloo Region in south central Ontario is one of the fastest growing and most economically advantaged areas in Canada. The City of Waterloo situated right next to Kitchener has a population of just under 100,000. Waterloo also has more than 20,000 seasonal college and university students registered at its universities and regional colleges. The two cities are located side-by-side and together are typically called Kitchener-Waterloo or K-W.

The city of Cambridge is located in the southern part of Waterloo Region and has a population of just over 120,000. Cambridge was formed in 1973 by the merging of the municipalities of Galt, Preston, Hespeler and Blair. Many local people felt the merger was a "shotgun marriage" pushed on them by the Province of Ontario.

Today The Waterloo area is one of the most vibrant and fastest growing areas in Canada because it has some of the best farm land in Ontario, two well respected Universities, a strong financial sector, diversified industrial production and a burgeoning high tech sector centered around Research in Motion and numerous spinoff businesses from the region's two univeristies.

Families thinking about moving into the Region will find excellent employment opportunities, an exciting and varied cultural life, and unmatched educational facilities. K-W real estate is also quite a bit cheaper than similar homes in other major cities such as Toronto.

Indeed, residents and businesses in Waterloo Region have the best of both worlds. They have the more friendly and pleasant atmosphere found in a smaller urban centre along with the considerable amenities of major urban centres such as Toronto, Mississauga, London and Detroit.
